Executive summary: This article has been written based on a case of recruiting a General Accountant for our Client, an FDI company with factory in Binh Xuyen Industrial Zone, Binh Xuyen district, Vinh Phuc province. With the recover of the (Vietnam and world) economy, companies see opportunities for production growth; however, there are significant challenges in recruitment.
For jobs in support functions like accounting, finance (and also HR, IT, admin etc), trading and service companies based in the large cities (here we mean Hanoi capital) and towns can attract employees significantly. So there are few qualified employees who are eager to come to work in industrial zones (IZs), due to relatively “long” distance from the inhabited areas. As the result, companies based in IZs should apply competitive approaches: using financial tools (more attractive packages) and/or providing staff training (on the job or out side the company) and staff development policies. Training is crucially important in cases when the new employees have good backgrounds but lack only some practical skills that can be covered by on-the-job training (or at short courses outside).
